A wavelength range in the electromagnetic spectrum that easily transmits solar radiation is referred to as an atmospheric window. Windows are the most useful areas for remote sensing data acquisition because radiation is least blocked or absorbed there. Those spectral ranges within these transmissive areas in which satellites detect signals are referred to as bands.
