Idrisi was a cartographer and geographer of major significance during the medieval period. He was born in 1099 AD in Sebtah (now Ceuta) on the North African coast of what is now Morocco. Idrisi traveled widely throughout Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and Asia Minor.
